Teething faces....

Lately, Nathan has been making this face.....

It's pretty constant.  Like, if he's not smiling or babbling, he's doing this again.....

We're thinking it's his top teeth coming in, and we can't wait for them to come!!!  There are different variations of this face.  Sometimes it's the top lip over bottom lip and sometimes it's the bottom over the top lip.  Either way, it's pretty cute:)

Until he ends up looking like this.......

Then it's not so cute....well, maybe still a little cute (but sad at the same time)!!!!!!

What we've been up to....

The past few days have been busy, busy, busy.

We celebrated a friend's birthday...Happy Birthday Steph!!!!

We went skiing again....fresh powder everywhere...it was an amazing day!!!

Nathan discovered another new toy....look at that expression...so cute!!!!

Nathan discovered a new pass time at the mall...a quick stop to look at all the fishies!!!!

Mama bought a new shirt that's perfect for weekends and work...score!!!!

Shirt by TNA at Aritzia.
Overall, a great couple of days.

Next, we start packing, taxes, and putting all of our ducks in a row for the big move happening in about a month...eek!!!  So much to do.  Luckily I have an amazing husband who's great at that kinda stuff!!!!

I love being a mom, but....

I wish I could take an occasional morning off sometimes..haha!!!

Last night we had friends over for dinner and drinks.  Next thing you know it's past midnight and we've somehow polished off a couple bottles of wine and a 12 pack of beer.  Needless to say, my head hurts a little this morning.

Nathan has an internal alarm clock.  He knows when mommy wants him to sleep in a little.  Do you know how I know this????...because he doesn't!!!  He gets up even earlier than usual, 6:30 to be exact.

You can't call in sick when you're a parent.  You can't even slack off a little.  You have to be always present and always on.

I wouldn't trade it for anything though:)  His smile at 6:30 am is pretty priceless.

Happy 8 months Boo Bear!!!

Wow.  Today you are officially 8 months old.  8 months ago today I was in a hospital bed wondering if you were ever going to come out and meet us (you seemed to like mommy's belly a lot).   8 months ago today I was the most nervous and most excited I've ever been.  8 months ago today our lives completely changed.

This month was a big one for milestones.

Your biggest accomplishment this month was that you learned how to pull yourself up to standing.  This was a biggie for you and mommy.  Now, you can really get into everything.

You've also learned how to feed our dog....and for that, you've become his new best friend.

Your love affair with food continues to get stronger.........

You love exploring new things.  Your new favorite 'toys' are Boston's dog bowls and the dirt in our plant.

This month you've also perfected your pincer grasp.  We've been giving you tons of practice with all the new finger foods you've been trying.  You love to feed yourself.  Blueberries have become your new favorite.

You're still a chunker.  Last time we weighed you you were almost 23 lbs.

You're still a great little sleeper.  You do have the occasional nighttime wake-up, but we just give you your pacifier and you go right back down.  You usually have 3 naps a day, one 1 hour nap, a 1.5 hour nap, and a little catnap before dinner.

You've started playing games with mommy and daddy this month.  You love peek-a-boo...especially when you're the one hiding.  You've also discovered that if I open my month you can put something in it (and then you just completely crack up...that one's your favorite).

You've learned how to 'real crawl' this month.  Although you still prefer your army crawl if you have to go anywhere important.

You are growing so fast my little boo bear.  xo

Weekend Recap

We spent Friday night playing my ALL time favorite board game (I know I've blogged about this before)...Settlers of Catan.  Seriously, if you haven't already tried this game...try it, I promise you will love it.
Saturday night was DATE NIGHT!!!!!  We haven't had a true date night in a while and this certainly made up for it.  We ate dinner at a nice Italian restaurant (lots of wine included as evident on my teeth above).  We're always looking for something a little different to try than just your regular 'dinner and a movie' so we decided to check out a comedy show.  Seriously, it was awesome.  So hilarious.

Sunday was dim sum.  It was so cute seeing Nathan try all the different flavors and textures.  He ate EVERYTHING.  Seriously, there is nothing this kid will not eat.
Yum, Yum Yum.....mommy MORE, MORE , MORE!!!!!!!!  haha

Overall, a great weekend!!!!!!!!!

My life is over.

Wow, that's an exaggeration if I've ever heard one.  My life isn't really over but it has certainly changed over the past week or so.  Nathan is officially SUPER mobile.  He's gone from a cute / slow army crawl to full on moving and shaking.  I'm talking climbing on everything and anyone, discovering every nook and cranny in our house, and walking around furniture.  It's amazing how fast these things happen.

Exhibit A:

This is his new favorite thing.  When he's not 'walking' around he's whining.  It's actually pretty cute.  The only problem with this new 'hobby' is that I have to watch this guy like a hawk.  Otherwise, he starts doing this.....

Exhibit B:

So I turn my back for 2 seconds and I look over and discovered him IN the dog bowl.  If you look at his left arm it's literally IN the water.  If you look closely at his left cheek, it's full of kibble.  So, what does a good mama do when she discovers such a thing.....run to get her camera of course!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  haha.

And lastly,

Exhibit C:

My cutie pie!  muah!!!!  xoxox

Our Love Story....

Hi Everyone,
I'm teaming up with one of my favorite mama bloggers 'From Mrs. to Mama'.

I thought this idea was super cute and I'm always looking for an excuse to blog about my 2nd favorite person in the whole wide world (just kidding pumpkin...we'll call it a tie for 1st).

So in honor of Valentine's day....

 1. How long have you and your significant other been together?
5 years

2. How did you meet? {What's your "love" story?}
We met in optometry school.  It's the age old story of starting out as friends and growing into something much more.  We were both dating other people at the time but apparently our 'fire' was just too much for us both to handle...haha!!!!

3. If married, how long have you been married?
Just 1 1/2 years.

4. If you are married, where did you get married at? Big or small wedding?  If not, where would you like to get married? And will it be big or small?
We had a big beautiful wedding with all the bells and whistles.  It was in Toronto.  We went to Italy for our honeymoon.

5. Do you have any nick-names that you call one another? Do share!
hmmmm....babe is probably our most common name for each other.  Otherwise, pumpkin, snuggle bunny, and sweetie pie are my favs for him.  Unfortunately, his nickname for me is TITTY (I spelled that correctly if you're wondering)

6. Name 3 things you love most about your honey.
His confidence, sense of humor, ambition.

7. Tell us how he proposed? Or your ideal proposal?
Dinner and then a horse and carriage ride through beacon hill park...complete with lots of champagne (he knows how to keep his lady happy....booze!!!!!)

8. Is he a flowers and teddy bear kind of guy for v-day, or strawberrieschampagne, and rose petals?
Can I say a mix??  Flowers and champagne maybe??

9. Are you a sunset dinner on the beach kind of girl, or pop a movie in and relax on the couch?
Can I say both again??  For V-day, sunset dinner on the beach, but I also LOVE the stay-at-home date night.

10. Tell us one thing you'd like to do with your significant one day. If you could do anything? Go anywhere?
We have soooooo many places we want to see.  We both LOVE to travel.  Belize, Indonesia, French Polynesia, Spain, Brazil...etc etc.

11. Tell us what you plan on doing on this Valentine's Day.
Date night OUT!!!  Dinner and a comedy show sans bambino.

12. Are you asking for anything this Valentine's day?
Nope, but secretly hoping for something cute.

13. Give us one piece of advice of keeping a relationship strong and full of love.
Compromise, compromise, compromise....and a little bit of late night action to keep everyone happy:)

14.  Show us a picture of what love means to you.

xoxo pumpkin!

For those of you that LOVE pancakes....

I love Sundays...it's my favorite day of the week.  Hubby and I both work Saturdays and we have opposite weekdays off work, so Sundays are our only 'family' day.  Family day for us usually begins with a yummy breakfast followed by a long hike with our crazy pup.  This morning I made pancakes.

I think I've perfected the art of pancake making.....well, with a little help from this website.

Here is the recipe for those who are interested:

3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons white vinegar
1 cup of flour (I usually do 1/2 whole wheat and 1/2 white)
2 tbs of white sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 egg
2 tbs butter (melted)

1)Combine milk with vinegar and let sit for 5 minutes (*****This is the key to the fluffiness)
2)Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl
3)Whisk egg and butter into milk / vinegar combo
4)Combine dry ingredients with 'wet' ingredients
5)Cook until you can see bubbles forming at the top, then flip.

I usually add some chocolate chips, blueberries, or bananas just to spice it up a little.  The recipe doesn't call for vanilla but I usually throw a capful in the mix just to add some more flavor.

mmmmmmmmmmmm...Happy breakfast everyone!!!!!!!

We're moving....

This past week we made the trek to Ontario because....WE'RE MOVING THERE!!!!!  We're packing up and leaving Victoria BC and heading to the greater Toronto area at the end of March.

The first part of the week was spent studying for a jurisprudence exam (fancy word for a provincial law exam in optometry) which was not fun.  The second part of the week consisted of non-stop house hunting.

We somehow managed to squish 20 houses in two days and guess what??!!!.......we ended up buying a new house.  I'll be 100% honest, it's not perfect.  I don't even think it's as nice as our house here in Victoria, but it has potential.  Nathan will likely be living in this new house for the first 5 years of his life (until we can afford our dream home) so my project this year is to make it nice.  This is where PINTEREST will come in again:)

Many people keep asking why we've decided to do this.......ONE word....

FAMILY.  We both miss our families quite a bit while we're here.  Plus, 12 hours traveling with a 7 month old = pure hell.
